He is best known in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\">United States<\/a>&nbsp;for his roles as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luka_Kova%C4%8D\">Dr. Luka Kova\u010d<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ER_(TV_series)\">ER<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;and Garcia Flynn in&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Timeless_(TV_series)\">Timeless<\/a><\/em>, both&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NBC\">NBC<\/a>&nbsp;television series. For&nbsp;<em>ER<\/em>, he and the cast were nominated for two&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Screen_Actors_Guild_Award\">Screen Actors Guild Awards<\/a>. Originally cast as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laertes_(Hamlet)\">Laertes<\/a>and understudy to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prince_Hamlet\">Hamlet<\/a>, he took over the role when the star dropped out of the production shortly before the first performance. In 1998, he appeared in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Madonna\">Madonna<\/a>&#8216;s music video &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Power_of_Good-Bye\">The Power of Good-Bye<\/a>&#8220;, and had a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cameo_appearance\">cameo<\/a>&nbsp;in the movie&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rounders_(film)\">Rounders<\/a><\/em>. He appeared with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jennifer_Garner\">Jennifer Garner<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elektra_(2005_film)\">Elektra<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;(2005). In 2005, Vi\u0161nji\u0107 was one of four finalists for the role of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Bond\">James Bond<\/a>,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Goran_Vi%C5%A1nji%C4%87#cite_note-11\">[11]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;eventually losing out to British actor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daniel_Craig\">Daniel Craig<\/a>, with whom he would appear in&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Girl_with_the_Dragon_Tattoo_(2011_film)\">The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2008, Vi\u0161nji\u0107 starred in the film&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Helen_(2009_film)\">Helen<\/a><\/em>, alongside&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ashley_Judd\">Ashley Judd<\/a>&nbsp;as Judd&#8217;s character&#8217;s husband David in the drama, which made its world premiere at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2009_Sundance_Film_Festival\">2009 Sundance Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He appeared alongside&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carla_Gugino\">Carla Gugino<\/a>&nbsp;in a segment of the 2009 film&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York,_I_Love_You\">New York, I Love You<\/a><\/em>, an anthology set in New York. The segment was cut from the theatrical release of the film but was included in the DVD version.<sup>[<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:Citation_needed\">citation needed<\/a><\/em>]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vi\u0161nji\u0107 appeared in the historical drama&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Courageous_Heart_of_Irena_Sendler\">The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler<\/a><\/em>, about a young&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polish_people\">Polish<\/a>&nbsp;woman who saved the lives of many&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_of_Jews_in_Poland\">Jewish<\/a>children in wartime&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw\">Warsaw<\/a>, filmed in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Riga\">Riga<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Latvia\">Latvia<\/a>. It was produced for&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hallmark_Hall_of_Fame\">Hallmark Hall of Fame<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;and aired on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CBS\">CBS<\/a>&nbsp;on 19 April 2009.&nbsp;He completed a role in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mike_Mills_(director)\">Mike Mills<\/a>&#8216; independent film,&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beginners\">Beginners<\/a><\/em>.&nbsp;In late 2009, he was cast as Samson in the miniseries&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Deep_(British_TV_series)\">The Deep<\/a><\/em>, shown on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_One\">BBC One<\/a>&nbsp;in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He appeared as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrija_Hebrang_(father)\">Andrija Hebrang<\/a>&nbsp;in the historical drama&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tito_(miniseries)\">Tito<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;on Croatian television. Although the series was renewed in late 2014, Vi\u0161nji\u0107 left the series early in the second season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2016 to 2018, he played former&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Security_Agency\">NSA<\/a>&nbsp;asset Garcia Flynn in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NBC\">NBC<\/a>&#8216;s time travel television series&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Timeless_(TV_series)\">Timeless<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, Vi\u0161nji\u0107 portrayed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ante_Gotovina\">Ante Gotovina<\/a>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antun_Vrdoljak\">Antun Vrdoljak<\/a>-directed film&nbsp;<em>General<\/em>. His performance, along with the film itself gained overwhelmingly negative reviews&nbsp;with many critics, including Milivoj Juki\u0107 and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jurica_Pavi%C4%8Di%C4%87\">Jurica Pavi\u010di\u0107<\/a>&nbsp;calling his portrayal &#8220;the worst performance of his career&#8221;.
